no. 2 Opus Place Condominiums
The Yang-Martín residence
In my first Interior Design Studio class, I was tasked with creating interesting clients to design a custom-designed condominium for. This couple would have specific needs and preferences that I would need to consider during the design process.
Josh and Kia Yang-Martín are a newly married couple from Los Angeles, California. They are currently pet parents to one dog and two cats but plan on having children in the coming years. Josh and Kia both work in the film industry which is the reason for their move to the secondary filmmaking hub in Atlanta. The Yang-Martíns have sporadic schedules that either keep them away from their homes for long work hours or allow them to escape from their stressful work lives in the haven of their home. Josh and Kia also love traveling and exploring the great outdoors in their free time, cook family recipes together, and, of course, watch plenty of films in the company of their friends and family.
Client Needs
Music Room: In addition to filmmaking, Josh is also passionate about music and requires a quiet room to produce and record music.
Cinema Room: Enjoying the artistry of cinematography is very important to the couple. Because of this, the couple requires an immersive home theater experience.
Multifunctional Guest Rooms: Josh and Kia are very close to their families who will be visiting often; there must be a guest room with ample storage for extra bedding and several sleeper sofas throughout the condominium.
Transforming Nursery: The couple will have children in the near future. Therefore, space must be reserved for a nursery. This room will be able to transform to fit the needs of a growing child.
Mudroom-style Entryway: The couple and their dog hike often, there should be a large enough entrance space to clean themselves up, hang up coats and keys, and take off their shoes before heading into the main spaces of their home.
Black-Out Drapery: Josh and Kia have unstable schedules when on the job. Sometimes they wake up before the sun comes out, sometimes they need to wake up at 3 pm. They require black-out curtains in the bedroom and as much soundproofing as possible.
Walk-In Closet with Makeup Vanity: Kia prefers to get ready in the morning all in the same place. She requests that her vanity is inside the walk-in closet and has access to some natural light in order to complete her makeup correctly.
