revive design booklet | aug. 2021

history of interior design

In this booklet, I compared a historical interior component (such as furniture or a design style) to a newer rendition used in a modern way. By creating these entries, I learned about important features of the interior world that are still alive and widely utilized today.

form, space, and order

My team and I developed a 10’x10’x10’ living pod for the homeless population. Our design focused on inclusivity as we had embedded many ADA compliant and commitment features including appropriate bed and desk heights, a large turning radius, clear space below the kitchen sink, grab bars, and push latch cabinets.

‘STRATA’ represents the layers of multifunctional furniture embedded into this living pod for the homeless population, as well as embodying a plan to equalize class statuses and providing a safe home to those without adequate living conditions.

Interior Materials

I was assigned to create a mood board based on an impressionist painting of my choice and incorporate an interior style in the same period. I chose Claude Monet’s Sunrise painting for its colors and included an inspiration photo of a romantic bouquet.

Introduction to Interior Design

I learned about the Art Deco and French Country styles through the act of researching and creating this board. By choosing unforgettable pieces that strongly embodied each style, I was able to visually compare and understand the cues that indicate Art Deco and French Country.

Introduction to Interior Design

I was assigned brick for this sustainability project. I was a little disappointed at first because of the lack of glamour but was pleasantly surprised after delving further into my research. Brick is a material that is aesthetically pleasing for both interiors and exteriors, 100% recyclable, and naturally energy efficient.
